Opening: Welcome to Roosevelt Elementary News, the weekly podcast about our school. I'm Macie. And I'm Toni.
Toni: Our school, Roosevelt Elementary is celebrating "I Love To Read Month" in February. We will stop, drop and read for 20 minutes each day until the end of February.
Macie: Since we started "I Love to Read Month," Roosevelt students have taken more than 500 AR quizzes! Keep up the good work, Roosevelt friends.
Mr. Holmes' Class Goes to the Nursing Home
Emma and Alexandra
Toni: Mr. Holmes' fifth graders have been visiting the nursing home every month since the beginning of the year. They are making calendars for the residents to hang in their rooms.
Macie: In fact, they just visited on Thursday. Isn't that kind of those students! I'm sure they love getting visitors at the nursing home.
Band/Orchestra Concert
Miranda and Korissa
TONI: The orchestra concert last week was a big success! The concert was held in the Eveleth-Gilbert High School Auditorium.
MACIE: There was a variety of songs, from Harry Potter to Old MacDonald. There were people on every orchestra instrument, and a few people on drums and guitars. Every upcoming concert will include more challenging songs, since the musicians are improving!
TONI: Sounds like they are doing a great job!
DARE
Ana and Meghan
February also marked the beginning of DARE. Officer Nickila started visiting fifth grade classes earlier this month.
MACIE: He teaches fifth graders how to resist drugs. Fifth graders say Officer Nickila makes learning interesting with the help of his lion named Daren.
Fifth graders also complete workbooks that teach about the negative impact of drugs.

Annie
The Wide Window is a great book from a series called A Series of Unfortunate Events. The Wide Window is about three kids who. A man named Count Olaf if going after their huge fortune. There are 13 books in the series.
Movie Review
Brandi and Lathan
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - a movie based on the book - is about food that falls from the sky and the problems it causes for the town of Chewandswallow.
The characters in the movie have to find a way to stop it. They make a big spaceship and fly inside the cloud. This movie is very different from the book. We would recommend this fun and crazy movie to anyone!
